Nor'easters Barbershop Chorus

THE WINTHROP EXPRESS

On the night of Saturday, February 13, a foursome of Nor'easters traveled an hour to deliver more than just a Singing Valentine. Kit Bednar of  New Hampshire  wanted something special for her mother’s 80th birthday. She found the Brunswick Maine chapter’s on-line order form and submitted her request on Jan 20. As as result, the WINTHROP EXPRESS, as the quartet was to be known, not only sang “The Story of a Rose” and “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” for the Valentine, but also thrilled the birthday girl with a rousing barbershop rendition of Happy Birthday.

Their singing reduced the birthday girl to tears more than once (hopefully not due to lack of quality). Somebody remarked, “This’ll be a 2 tissue box Night”. The quartet continued to entertain the family and friends that had gathered for the occasion with a mini-concert of songs for all ages.  While they thoroughly enjoyed their time with the family (and not just because of the ample food and drink), they eventually had to leave in order to get to another gig. With one final song, they bid adieu to one of those experiences that make barbershopping great. The family was so delighted with the quartet they promised to invite them back for Joanie’s 90th!
